Sold on mood, so the images run the page

Media sites fail in a way other small business sites do not. They are sold on atmosphere, so the images get bigger and the words get fewer, until there is nothing left on the page for a search engine to read and nothing for a visitor to act on. The two builds here come at that from opposite ends, one cinematic and one set like a printed page, and both keep enough real text to be found.

Large images are the expensive part, so they are cut to size and served in a modern format rather than uploaded at whatever the camera produced. Dates, releases and rosters are held as data and rendered once, which means a listing on the page and the same listing in search results cannot disagree with each other. Audio and video embed without dragging a page load down with them.

Why this shape of page

A page earns its keep by suiting the person who lands on it. These are not the same person from one trade to the next.

Who is reading it
Somebody who has heard the name and wants to know whether it is for them. A promoter checking you are real, a listener looking for the next date, a venue looking at the roster.
What you want them to do
It varies more here than in any other category: a ticket, a listen, a booking enquiry, a follow. The page's job is to make the next step obvious rather than to decide it for them.
Why the page is built this way
Images run the page, because that is what the judgement gets made on. The text that survives is the text carrying a date, a name or a link. The failure in this category is a beautiful page with nothing on it to act on and nothing for search to read, so the copy gets cut hard rather than dropped.

These are demonstrations rather than customers. Each one is a real deployed site you can open and use, built to show what this kind of business gets, with the business details taken out or never put in. Yours is built around your own.

Homepage of a record label site, direction one, a dark page with golden hour photography

Music and events

Full bleed photography, dark and atmospheric

For a business sold on mood. Large images, very little text, built to be looked at rather than read.

Music and events

Editorial, set like a printed page

The same kind of content set like a magazine spread. Suits anything with more to say than a headline.
